ඉතිහාසය

History proves that it was the first mixed school started in Nawalapitiya town by the Christian missionary company (CMS) in 1850 AD with 18 students. It is said that the names of St. Andrew's was added due to the church built on the basis of the religion of the Dutch people in the college land in 1870 AD. A later history also mentions that development started in the college when Mr. D.  B.  Setunga assumed the position of principal. Thus, by 1917, the number of children increased to 150, and education was provided through both Sinhala and English mediums, and the mediums were controlled separately.

It is said that Mr. Setunga, who was in charge of the English department, presented three children for the first examination in 1918 and all three of them passed with high marks, and the reputation of the college increased. The college which was initially a mixed school, later became a Buddhist Girl's College in 1963, transferring Buddhist boys to Nawalapitiya Anuruddha College, Hindu children to Nawalapitiya Kadiration College, Muslim children to Nawalapitiya St. Mary's College and children up to grade 2 to Kanishta Balika Collège with classes from 6 - 13 became a Girls school currently. It is a 1AB school and one of the few schools in the island that provides education in all three language mediums.

Former principals Mrs.  M.  N.  M.  Abeysekara, Mrs.  S.  Wijetunga, Mrs.  A.  N.  K.  Palipana, Mrs.  Neetha Dissanayake, Mrs. I.  G.  W.  Aththanayake, Mrs. D.  A.  Wimala Siriwardana, Mrs. R.  M.  D.  C.  K.  Rathnayake, and present principal Mrs.  I.  A.  D.  V.  R.  Iddamalgoda's strong commitment, our school has reached a high level to its current status and becoming the main Girl's School in the area can be considered as an achievement of the college.

At present, female students come to this College not only from Nawalapitiya city and also from feeder areas such as Ambagamuwa, Iguruoya, Pattunupitiya, Dolosbage, Kothmale, Dekinda, Hapugasthalawa, Ulapane, Katabula, Greenwood, Kadiyanlena etc.

The college which started with a 20x50 feet coconut branch shed, is currently equipped with physical resources such as buildings, a modern computer unit, a library, a general science laboratory and a friendly classroom. The girls studying in our school are showing high skills in extra curicular activities such as education, sports, aesthetic activities and make our school prominent in Nawalapitiya city.

According to the current President's "Vision of Prosperity" policy statement our school is also belonged to the National Schools 1000+ program. Thus, in the future, we hope to progress further in all aspects and contribute good daughters to the society.
